Abstract
Novel chromium-containing compounds, such as, for example, chromium pyrrolides, are prepared by forming a mixture of a chromium salt, a metal amide, and an electron pair donor solvent, such as, for example, an ether. These novel chromium-containing, or chromium pyrrolide, compounds can be used either unsupported or supported on an inorganic oxide support to trimerize and/or polymerize olefins.
Claims27
A polymerization process comprising contacting at least one mono-1-olefin with an alkyl aluminum activating compound and a catalyst prepared by a process comprising forming a mixture of and refluxing:
- (a) a chromium salt;
- (b) a metal amide, which is a pyrrolide;
- and
- (c) an electron pair donor solvent which can affect a reaction between the chromium salt and metal amide.
A process to polymerize olefins comprising contacting at least one mono-1-olefin with a composition comprising of Cr.sub.5 (C.sub.4 H.sub.4 N).sub.10 (C.sub.4 H.sub.8 O).sub.4 supported on an inorganic oxide and an alkyl aluminum activating compound.

- (d) adding an inorganic oxide to the reaction product of (c);
- and
- (e) recovering a solid product.
A process to polymerize olefins comprising contacting at least one mono-1-olefin with a catalyst system prepared according to a process comprising:
- (a) forming a mixture of and refluxing a chromium salt, a metal amide which is a pyrrolide, and an electron pair donating solvent which can affect a reaction between the chromium salt and metal amide;
- (b) adding an inorganic oxide to the mixture of (a) to form a slurry;
