Electrophotographic member having an azo compound with diphenoquinone

An electrophotographic photosensitive member comprising a conductive substrate and a photosensitive layer deposited on the conductive substrate,

• wherein the photosensitive layer comprises a charge generating material and a charge transporting material;
• the charge generating material comprising an azo compound having a diphenoquinone structure selected from the group consisting of structures represented by the following general formulae IA, IB and IC:
• ##STR34## wherein R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are the same or different from each other and are a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, an alkenyl group, a hydroxyl group, an alkoxy group, a carboxy group, an alkoxy carbonyl group, an acyl group, an aryl group, a halogen group or a cyano group, respectively;
• R.sup.14 is a hydrogen atom, a halogen group, an alkyl group, an alkoxy group, an aryl group, an amino group, a cyano group, a nitro group or a sulfoxide group;
• and A is a coupler residue having an acceptor property.

An electrophotographic photosensitive member comprising a conductive substrate and a photosensitive layer deposited on the conductive substrate,

• wherein the photosensitive layer comprises a charge generating material and a charge transporting material;
• the charge generating material comprising an azo compound having a diphenoquinone structure selected from the group consisting of structures represented by the following general formulae IIA, IIB and IIC:
• ##STR37## wherein R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are the same or different from each other and are a hydrogen atom, an akyl group, an alkenyl group, a hydroxyl group, an alkoxy group, a carboxy group, an alkoxy carbonyl group, an acyl group, an aryl group, a halogen group or a cyano group, respectively;
• R.sup.14 is a hydrogen atom, a halogen group, an alkyl group, an alkoxy group, an aryl group, an amino group, a cyano group, a nitro group or a sulfoxide group;
• and A is a coupler residue having an acceptor property.
