Abstract
Ruthenium tetroxide is obtained by oxidation of an alkali metal ruthenate in aqueous solution. The oxidizing agent used is ozone. The oxidation is carried out at a pH greater than or equal to 8.

A method of obtaining ruthenium tetroxide by oxidation of an aqueous alkali metal ruthenate solution which comprises:
- contacting the aqueous alkali metal ruthenate solution with an oxidizing mixture of oxygen and ozone at a pH above 8.
