Abstract
A process is described for the production of bonded abrasive products in which the abrasive particles are filamentary alumina particles with a substantially uniform cross-section and an aspect ratio of at least about 1:1.
Claims5
A process for the production of a bonded abrasive product comprising a bond material and filamentary abrasive particles which comprises:
- a) forming filamentary particles having an essentially uniform cross-sectional shape and an aspect ratio of at least about 1:1 from an alumina gel in which boehmite provides at least about 90% of the alumina solids weight and about 60% of the total solids weight and then firing the formed particles to convert the boehmite to alpha alumina and produce filamentary abrasive particles;
- and
- b) forming a bonded abrasive product from the filamentary abrasive particles and a bond material.
