Abstract
The present invention is concerned with a novel biotransformation process for producing 17.beta.-N-monosubstituted carbamoyl-11-oxo-4-aza-5-.alpha.-androst-3-ones of the formula: ##STR1## These compounds are testosterone 5-.alpha. reductase inhibitors and are produced via a claimed novel biotransformation process using the green algae, Selenastrum capricornutum.
Claims7
A process for 11.alpha.-hydroxylating steroidal compound comprising the step of contacting said steroidal compound with a green algae, Selenastrum capricornutum in an aqueous system at a pH of approximately 7 and a temperature of 1.degree.-30.degree. C.
