Abstract
Derivatives of 2,3-difluorobenzonitrile of the formula I ##STR1## are useful components of liquid crystalline phases.
Claims21
In a liquid crystalline phase containing at least two liquid crystalline components, the improvement wherein at least one component is a 2,3-difluorobenzonitrile of the formula ##STR6## wherein R is alkyl of 1-12 C atoms or alkyl of 1-12 C atoms in which one or two CH.sub.2 groups ar replaced by --O--, --CO--, --O--CO--, and/or --CH.dbd.--, where two O atoms are not directly linked with one another, and
- A is ##STR7##
In a liquid crystalline phase containing at least two liquid crystalline components, the improvement wherein at least one component is a 2,3-difluorobenzonitrile of the formula ##STR12## wherein R is alkyl of 1-12 C atoms or alkyl of 1-12 C atoms in which one or two CH.sub.2 groups are replaced by --O--, --CO--, --O--CO--, and/or --CH.dbd.CH--, wherein two O atoms are not directly linked with one another, and
- A is ##STR13##
