A fluid apparatus including a fluid tank having a shell and defining a fluid containment compartment. A well is recessed into the fluid tank at an opening in the shell. The well has a well wall secured to the shell and a support ring at the shell opening and secured to and inside of the well wall. A cover plate is removably securable to the support ring to form a pressure-tight connection relative to the interior of the well such that the cover plate can retain in the well a pressure at least as great as the working pressure of the fluid in the compartment. This pressure-tight securement is preferably made by threading bolts through the plate and into drilled, tapped blind holes in the ring. The well can have a well head secured to the well wall and opposite to the shell opening. The well head in turn can be equipped with an internal manway cover openable into the tank and closable in a pressure-tight manner relative to the well wall.
A fluid containment apparatus comprising:
The fluid containment apparatus of 1 further comprising pressurizing valve means for pressurization of said equipment well, when closed by said well cover, with an inert gas and depressurization of said well prior to cover removal.
The fluid containment apparatus of 3 wherein said pressurizing valve means is a Schrader type tire valve.
The fluid containment apparatus of 3 wherein said pressurizing valve means is protectively recessed within said cover.
The fluid containment apparatus of 3 wherein said equipment well is kept pressurized with an inert fluid during some period of time when access to said tank equipment is not required.
The fluid containment apparatus of 1 wherein said equipment well, when closed by said well cover, is constructed to withstand a pressure at least as high as the working pressure of said fluid containment compartment.
The fluid containment apparatus of 1 further comprising a source of inert pressurizing fluid attached to said equipment well to maintain pressure in said well relative to said fluid containment compartment.
The fluid containment apparatus of 1 wherein said equipment well is at least partially recessed into and is attached to an opening in said fluid tank in a leak tight manner.
The fluid containment apparatus of 1 wherein said equipment well is at least partially attached directly to said tank shell in a leak tight manner.
