Abstract
This invention deals with viscosity improvers which are obtained through the use of a mixed catalyst system comprising a primary and/or secondary organo halide and a Lewis acid catalyst.
Claims22
A process for preparing a liquid polymer comprising contacting at least one alpha-olefin with a catalyst system comprising a secondary organo halide and a Lewis acid catalyst in the presence of a halogenated solvent and in the presence of an activating amount of a protic compound under polymerization conditions thereby obtaining the liquid polymer.
A process for preparing an alpha-olefin copolymer comprising contacting at least two alpha-olefins with a catalyst system comprising a secondary organo halide and a Lewis acid catalyst under polymerization conditions employing a halogenated solvent thereby obtaining the alpha-olefin copolymer.
