Abstract
Novel 9-aminotetrahydroacridines and related compounds, intermediates and processes for the preparation thereof, and a method of relieving memory dysfunction are disclosed.

A compound of the formula
- wherein Y is C.dbd.O;
- R.sup.1 is hydrogen or loweralkyl;
- R.sup.2 is hydrogen, loweralkyl, or phenylloweralkyl;
- R.sup.3 is OR.sup.4 wherein R.sup.4 is hydrogen, COR.sup.5 wherein R.sup.5 is loweralkyl, X is hydrogen, loweralkyl, halogen, loweralkoxy, hydroxy, or trifluoromethyl, the geometric or optical isomers thereof, N-oxides thereof, or the pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition salts thereof.
