Abstract
A new expert system performs a redesign in connection with an original design. The expert system comprises a discrepancy determination component that identifies a discrepancy between operation of the original design and a desired operation. A redesign component including at least one redesign module associated with a discrepancy generates a redesign in response to the original design and the identified discrepancy. Finally, a redesign generation component generates a redesign module in response to a previously-identified discrepancy and design, the redesign module thereafter being used by the redesign component.
Claims22
A data processing expert system including a memory for storing an original design of a complex system including a plurality of operations performed by said original design of said complex system, and for storing at least one desired operation, and a plurality of redesign modules, said expert system performing a redesign in connection with the original design, the expert system comprising:
- A. a diagnostic component that identifies a discrepancy between the stored operations of the original design and the stored desired operation;
- B. a redesign component, coupled to the diagnostic component, for generating a redesign in accordance with the plurality of redesign modules, the original design, and the identified discrepancy;
- and
- C. a redesign generation component, coupled to the redesign component, that generates a new redesign module in response to the identified discrepancy and adds said new redesign module to said plurality of redesign modules, the new redesign module thereafter being used by the redesign component.
A data processing expert system including a memory for storing an original design of a complex system including a plurality of operations performed by said complex system, and a plurality of redesign modules, said expert system performing a redesign in connection with the original design, the expert system comprising:
- A. discrepancy determination component that identifies a discrepancy between the operations of the original design and the desired operation;
- B. a redesign component including a redesign module for generating a redesign in accordance with the original design and a redesign selection module for identifying a redesign module in accordance with the identified discrepancy and a corresponding cause said discrepancy;
- and
- C. a redesign generation component including:
- i. a redesign generation module for generating a redesign module, said redesign generation module comprising:
- (a) a redesign module generator comprising:
- (I) an eligibility generator for generating eligibility information for use by said redesign component in selecting a redesign module, the eligibility information identifying said identified discrepancy and the corresponding cause of said identified discrepancy;
- and
- (II) a redesign scheduling generator for generating redesign scheduling information for use by said redesign component, the redesign scheduling information identifying a sequence of primitive design operations;
- and
- ii. a redesign module selection information generator for iteratively generating redesign module selection information for use by said redesign component in selecting a redesign module.
A redesign generation system for use in connection with a data processing expert system that performs a redesign in connection with an original design of a complex system characterized by a plurality of operations, the expert system comprising a discrepancy determination component that identifies a discrepancy between one of said operations of the original design and a desired operation, and a redesign component including a redesign module for generating a redesign in response to the original design, and a redesign selection module for identifying a redesign module in response to the identified discrepancy and a corresponding cause of said discrepancy, the redesign generation component including:
- i. a redesign generation module for generating a redesign module, said redesign generation module comprising:
- (a) a redesign module generator comprising:
- (I) an eligibility generator for generating eligibility information for use by said redesign component in selecting a redesign module, the eligibility information identifying said identified discrepancy and the corresponding cause of said discrepancy;
- and
- (II) a redesign scheduling generator for generating redesign scheduling information for use by said redesign component, the redesign scheduling information identifying a sequence of primitive design operations;
- and
- ii. a redesign module selection information generator for iteratively generating redesign module selection information for use by said redesign component in selecting a redesign module.
A data processing expert system including a memory for storing an original design of a complex system including a plurality of operations performed by said original design of said complex system, at least one desired operation which an operator desires the complex system to perform, and a plurality of redesign modules, each of which being associated with at least one discrepancy between a desired operation and said operations of said original design, wherein said expert system is capable of performing a redesign operation in connection with the original design, said expert system comprising:
- diagnostic means for identifying a discrepancy between the operations of said original design and said desired operation;
- redesign generating means for, using said redesign modules, generating a redesign of said original design in accordance with the redesign modules and the identified discrepancy, wherein said identified discrepancy is eliminated from said generated redesign, and for replacing said original design with said redesign;
- and redesign module creating means for creating a new redesign module corresponding to said generated redesign and for adding said new redesign module to said plurality of redesign modules.
