Abstract
Carbapenems of the formula ##STR1## are useful intermediates to antibacterial agents.
Claims4
A compound of the formula ##STR258## where R is H or CH.sub.3 ;
- P' is a removable protecting group for hydroxy;
- R.sup.a is selected from the group consisting of H, Cl, Br, I, SMe, CN, CHO, SOMe, SO.sub.2 Me, and OP';
- M is a removable protecting group for carboxyl;
- and
- Z is an effective leaving group selected from the group consisting of alkyl and substituted alkylsulfonates, aryl and substituted arylsulfonates, and halides.
