Abstract
Phosphonic acid, (2-halo-2-cyanoethylenyl)-dialkylesters are prepared which correspond to the formula: ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 independently represent an alkyl group and X represents a halogen. These compounds have been found to exhibit antimicrobial activity in industrial and commercial applications and compositions containing these compounds are so employed.
Claims17
A compound corresponding to the formula:
- ##STR6## wherein R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 independently represent an alkyl group, and X represents a halogen.
An antimicrobial composition comprising an inert carrier and an antimicrobially effective amount of a compound corresponding to the formula:
- ##STR7## wherein R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 independently represent an alkyl group, and X represents a halogen.
A method for inhibiting microorganisms in a microbial habitat comprising contacting said microbial habitat with an antimicrobially effective amount of a compound corresponding to the formula:
- ##STR8## wherein R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 independently represent an alkyl group, and X represents a halogen.
