Abstract
An easy-open, spiral wound container for packaging refrigerated dough products includes a spirally wound fibrous core layer, forming an unbonded spiral butt joint. The container also includes an inner liner layer and an outer label layer, each having a seam. The outer label layer is weakened along the butt joint to facilitate opening of the container. An end closure member seals an end of the container.
Claims9
A no-peel, easy-open composite cylindrical container for refrigerated dough products, comprising:
- a container body comprising:
- a fibrous tubular core including a longitudinal butt joint;
- an inner liner adhesively bonded to an inner surface of the fibrous core, the inner liner having a longitudinal seam located proximate the butt joint;
- an outer label layer adhesively bonded to an outer surface of the fibrous core;
- means for weakening the outer label layer located substantially in radial registry with the butt joint while providing sufficient strength to resist internal container pressure and opens upon application of external pressure along the outer surface of the container along the butt joint without removal of a portion of the container body prior to opening;
- and
- at least one end member for sealing the container.
A no-peel, easy-open composite cylindrical container for refrigerated dough products, comprising:
- a container body comprising:
- a fibrous tubular core including a longitudinal butt joint;
- an inner liner adhesively bonded to an inner surface of the fibrous core, the inner liner having a longitudinal seam located proximate the butt joint;
- an outer label layer adhesively bonded to an outer surface of the fibrous core,
- means for weakening the outer label layer proximate the butt joint while providing sufficient strength to resist internal container pressure without removal of a portion of the container body prior to opening, wherein the means for weakening the outer label layer comprises at least one perforation in the label layer proximate the butt joint, wherein each perforation includes a heat affected area surrounding the perforation for substantially eliminating tearing of the label layer prior to applying force to the butt joint;
- and
- at least one end member for sealing the container.
A spiral wound no-peel composite cylindrical container for packaging pressurized dough products, comprising:
- a container body comprising:
- a fibrous core spirally wound into tubular form wherein the fibrous core includes abutting edges which define an unbonded spiral butt joint;
- an inner liner adhesively bonded to an inner surface of the fibrous core, wherein the inner liner includes an anaconda fold located proximate the butt joint;
- an outer layer adhesively bonded to an outer surface of the fibrous core, wherein the outer label layer includes at least one perforation located proximate the butt joint, the perforated outer label layer being of a strength sufficient to resist internal container pressure without providing additional layers to be peeled prior to opening wherein a heat affected area surrounds each perforation to prevent premature rupture of the outer label layer;
- and
- at least one end member for sealing the container.
A spiral wound composite cylindrical container for packaging pressurized dough products, comprising:
- a fibrous core spirally wound into tubular form wherein the fibrous core includes abutting edges which define an unbonded spiral butt joint;
- an inner liner adhesively bonded to an inner surface of the fibrous core, wherein the inner liner includes an anaconda fold located proximate the butt joint;
- and
- an outer label layer adhesively bonded to an outer surface of the fibrous core, wherein the outer label layer includes a plurality of spaced apart perforations aligned and in register with the butt joint, each perforation having a surrounding heat affected area to prevent premature rupture of the outer label layer.
