Claims4
A ferroelectric liquid crystal composition comprising from 0.01 to 1% by weight of a liquid crystal or liquid-crystal compatible compound having a fluoroalkyl group in ferroelectric liquid crystals exhibiting a smectic C phase, said liquid crystal or liquid crystal-compatible compound having the formula (I):
- ##STR19## each represents a benzene ring, in which one or more of the hydrogen atoms may be substituted by a substituent selected from the group consisting of CH.sub.3 and OCH.sub.3 O,
- R represents a linear or branched alkyl or perfluoroalkyl group containing 1 to 12 carbon atoms;
- A is --O--;
- B and B' each represents a single bond;
- C is --COOR.sub.1 --, in which R.sub.1 represents a linear alkylene group containing 1 to 8 carbon atoms;
- m is an integer of 0 or 1;
- and
- n is an integer of 1 to 10.
