Abstract
A hydroquinone monocarboxylate, e.g., hydroquinone monoacetate, is facilely prepared by disproportionating/reacting a stoichiometric excess of a hydroquinone dicarboxylate, e.g., hydroquinone diacetate, with hydroquinone, optionally in the presence of a strong acid/transesterification catalyst.
Claims11
A process for the preparation of a hydroquinone monocarboxylate having the general formula:
- ##STR3## wherein R is a straight or branched chain alkyl radical having from 1 to 4 carbon atoms, comprising disproportionating a stoichiometric excess of a hydroquinone dicarboxylate with hydroquinone.
