Bis-dibenzoazepine compounds

A compound of the formula:

• ##STR15## or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, wherein
• X is O or H.sub.2 ;
• R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are each independently H, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl, benzyl, or phenethyl, or, when there is a bond between R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 as represented by the dotted line, R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 taken together are ethylene;
• Y and Z are each independently H, Cl, F, Br, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkoxy, hydroxy or CF.sub.3 moiety;
• n is an integer of 1 to 10;
• and
• p and q are each independently an integer of 2 to 4,
• provided that when there is a bond between R.sub.1 and R.sub.2, X is H.sub.2 and n is 1.
