Abstract
Ozone resistant vulcanizable copolymers of isoolefins with non-conjugated dienes of the general formula: ##STR1## where R.sub.1 is ##STR2## and R.sub.2 is alkyl of 1 to 6 carbon atoms and vulcanizates thereof. The copolymers are prepared by polymerization in the presence of Lewis acids.

A vulcanizable copolymer of at least one isoolefin and at least one non-conjugated diene of the formula ##STR15## where R.sub.1 is a member of the group consisting of ##STR16## and R.sub.2 is a C.sub.1 to C.sub.6 alkyl group, said copolymer containing about 85 to 99.5 weight percent of said at least one isoolefin moiety.
The process of preparing a copolymer of at least one isoolefin with at least one non-conjugated diene of the formula ##STR18## where R.sub.1 is a member of the group consisting of ##STR19## and R.sub.2 is a C.sub.1 to C.sub.6 alkyl group, comprising reacting said isoolefin with said non-conjugated diene in the presence of a Lewis acid catalyst, said isoolefin constituting about 85 to 99.5 percent by weight of the monomers.
