Abstract
A composition and method of use thereof for the treatment of wastewater comprising a block copolymer having the formula: ##STR1## wherein E is a polymeric segment obtained from the polymerization of hydrophobic monomers, x when present is a nonionic monomer, y is a cationic monomer, R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are the same or different and are H or a lower alkyl group from C.sub.1 to C.sub.3 and F is a salt of an ammonium cation.
Claims8
A water soluble block copolymer comprising the formula:
- ##STR4## wherein E is a polymer obtained from the polymerization of ethylenically unsaturated hydrophobic monomers initiated by a difunctional initiator;
- R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are H or a C.sub.1 to C.sub.3 alkyl group;
- F is a salt of an ammonium cation selected from the group consisting of NHR.sub.3 N.sup.+ (R.sub.4,5,6)M.sup.- and OR.sub.3 N.sup.+ (R.sub.4,5,6)M.sup.- ;
- wherein R.sub.3 is a C.sub.1 to C.sub.4 linear or branched alkylene group;
- R.sub.4, R.sub.5 and R.sub.6 and H, C.sub.1 to C.sub.4 linear or branched alkyl, C.sub.5 to C.sub.8 cycloalkyl, aromatic or alkylaromatic;
- M.sup.- is an anion selected from the group consisting of chloride, bromide, methyl sulfate and hydrogen sulfate;
- and the molar percentage of x:y is from about 0:100 to 95:5, with the proviso that the total of x+y equals 100%.
