Abstract
This invention relates to a method for improving the resistance of biomaterial to thrombosis and infection and for improving tissue ingrowth, by eliminating undissolved gasses therefrom and by incorporation of therapeutic agents therein via the application of hydrostatic pressure.
Claims28
A method for improving a biomaterial's resistance to thrombosis and infection and for improving tissue ingrowth comprising the application of hydrostatic pressure to all surfaces of a biomaterial while it is submerged in a liquid, at a pressure and for a time sufficient to denucleate said biomaterial by displacing and/or dissolving all, or substantially all, undissolved gas from said biomaterial with said liquid.
A method for improving a biomaterial's resistance to thrombosis and infection and for improving tissue ingrowth comprising the application of hydrostatic pressure to all surfaces of a biomaterial while it is submerged in a gel or a gel-forming sol, at a pressure and for a time sufficient to denucleate said biomaterial by displacing and/or dissolving all, or substantially all, undissolved gas from said biomaterial with said gel or said gel-forming sol;
- said gel or said gel-forming sol containing one or more therapeutic agents.
