Abstract
A process for preparing synthetic lubricant base stocks having improved properties is disclosed. The process comprises co-reacting vinylcyclohexene and long-chain linear olefin in the presence of a Friedel-Crafts type catalyst, preferably anhydrous aluminum chloride.
Claims17
A process for preparing synthetic lubricant base stocks, comprising co-reacting vinylcyclohexene and linear olefins having from 10 to 24 carbon atoms in the presence of a Friedel-Crafts catalyst.
A process for preparing synthetic lubricant base stocks, comprising the steps of (1) co-reacting vinylcyclohexene and linear olefins having from 14 to 18 carbon atoms in the presence of an aluminum halide catalyst and (2) removing from the mixture resulting from the first step any non-oligomerized olefins and unreacted vinylcyclohexene.
