Abstract
This invention relates to new diarylpyrrolecarbonitrile and new diarylnitropyrrole compounds. It also relates to the use of said compounds as insecticidal and acaricidal agents and to a method of protecting plants, particularly crop plants, from attack by insects and acarina by application of a new diarylpyrrolecarbonitrile or diarylnitropyrrole to said plants or to the locus in which they are growing.
Claims7
A method for protecting living plants against attack by budworm, comprising, applying to said plants an insecticidally effective amount of a compound having the structure of formula I or II:
- ##STR20## wherein R.sub.1 is H,
- C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl or C.sub.2 -C.sub.4 monohaloalkyl, each optionally substituted with from one to three additional halogen atoms, one cyano, one hydroxy, one unsubstituted benzoyl, one or two C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkoxy groups each optionally substituted with one to three halogen atoms, one C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkylthio, one C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 carbalkoxy, one C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkylcarbonyloxy, one C.sub.2 -C.sub.6 alkenylcarbonyloxy, one benzenecarbonyloxy, or chloro, dichloro,.or methylsubstituted-benzenecarbonyloxy, one phenyl optionally substituted with C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alkoxy or with one to three halogen atoms, one phenoxy optionally substituted with one to three halogen atoms, or one benzyloxy optionally substituted with one halogen substituent;
- C.sub.3 -C.sub.4 alkenyl optionally substituted with one to three halogen atoms;
- cyano;
- C.sub.3 -C.sub.4 alkynyl optionally substituted with one halogen atom;
- di-(C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl)aminocarbonyl;
- or
- C.sub.3 -C.sub.6 polymethyleneiminocarbonyl;
- R.sub.2 is CN or NO.sub.2 ;
- R.sub.3 is CF.sub.3 ;
- X and Y are each independently phenyl optionally substituted with one or two halogen, CN, NO.sub.2, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkoxy, CF.sub.3 or OCF.sub.2 R.sub.4 groups;
- and
- R.sub.4 is H, F, CHF.sub.2, CHCl.sub.2 or CF.sub.3.
A method for controlling budworm comprising contacting said budworm with an insecticidally effective amount of a compound having the formula I or formula II structure:
