Abstract
The invention concerns novel odorants of formula I wherein R is hydrogen or methyl. ##STR1## The invention also concerns fragrance compositions containing I. Formula I is intended to particularly embrace as the racemates, (.+-.)-3.alpha.-acetyl-3.beta.,4.beta.,5,5-tetramethyl-2,3,4,4a.beta.,5,6, 7,8-octahydronapthalene and (.+-.)-3.alpha.-acetyl-4.beta.,5,5-trimethyl-2,3.beta.,4,4a.beta.,5,6,7,8- octahydronapthalene.
Claims20
A compound having the formula ##STR6## except wherein said compound is present at a level of less than six percent as a component of an isomeric mixture of two or more acetyl-tetramethyl-octahydronaphthalenes.
Substantially pure (.+-.)-3.alpha.-acetyl-3.beta.,4.beta.,5,5-tetramethyl-2,3,4,4a.beta.5,6,7 ,8-octahydronaphthalene.
A compound having the formula ##STR7##
A fragrance composition comprising an olfactorily effective amount of a compound having the formula ##STR8## except wherein said compound is present at a level of less than six percent as a component of an isomeric mixture of two or more acetyl-tetramethyl-octahydronaphthalenes. and at least one other olfactive agent.
A fragrance composition to which there has been added as a fragrance contributing ingredient an olfactorily effective amount of substantially pure (.+-.)-3.alpha.-acetyl-3.beta.,4.beta.,5,5-tetramethyl-2,3,4,4a.beta.,5,6, 7,8-octahydronaphthalene.
A fragrance composition to which there has been added as a fragrance contributing ingredient an olfactorily effective amount of a compound having the formula ##STR9##
A fragrance composition to which there has been added as a fragrance contributing ingredient an olfactorily effective amount of (.+-.)-3.alpha.-acetyl-4.beta.,5,5-trimethyl-2,3.beta., 4,4a.beta.,5,6,7,8-octahydronaphthalene.
A method for improving the odor of a fragrance composition which comprises adding thereto an olfactorily effective amount of a compound having the formula ##STR10## except wherein said compound is present at a level of less than six percent as a component of an isomeric mixture of two or more acetyl-tetramethyl-octahydronaphthalenes.
A method for improving a fragrance composition which comprises adding thereto an olfactorily effective amount of substantially pure (.+-.)-3.alpha.-acetyl-3.beta.,4.beta.,5,5-tetramethyl-2,3,4,4a.beta.,5,6, 7,8-octahydronaphthalene.
A method for improving a fragrance composition which comprises adding thereto an olfactorily effective amount of a compound having the formula ##STR11##
A method for improving a fragrance composition which comprises adding thereto an olfactorily effective amount of (.+-.)-3.alpha.-acetyl-4.beta.,5,5-trimethyl-2,3.beta.,4,4a.beta.,5,6,7,8- octahydronaphthalene.
