Production of vinylidene fluoride by contacting 143a and HCl in the gas phase at 300-700 C.

A process for producing vinylidene fluoride which comprises the steps of (a) heating in the vapor phase a mixture comprising 1,1,1-trifluoroethane and hydrogen chloride at a temperature of from about 300.degree. C. to about 700.degree. C., and (b) recovering vinylidene fluoride.
