Abstract
Hydroxyphenylpropionates of formula ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 to R.sub.4 are as defined in claim 1, are prepared by reacting the appropriate phenol and acrylate components in the presence of the sodium and potassium salt of said phenol component.

An improved process for the preparation of a compound of formula ##STR5## by reacting a compound of formula
- R.sub.4 --CH.dbd.CH--CO.sub.2 R.sub.3 ( 2)
- with a compound of formula ##STR6## wherein R.sub.1 to R.sub.3 are each independently of the other alkyl of 1 to 4 carbon atoms, and R.sub.4 is hydrogen or alkyl of 1 to 4 carbon atoms, in the presence of a base, and isolating said compound of formula (1), wherein the improvement comprises carrying out the reaction of a compound of formula (2) with a compound of formula (3) in the presence of a mixture of the compounds of formulae ##STR7## wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 have the given meanings.
