Abstract
The 4-acyloxyazetidin-2-ones, which are intermediates in the production of carbapenems and penems, are produced from nitrogen deprotected 4-furanylazetidin-2-ones.
Claims3
A starting material for the production of 4-acyloxyazetidin-2-ones, said starting material of the formula:
- ##STR17## wherein R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, alpha-carbon substituted C.sub.1-10 alkyl, and alpha-carbon substituted C.sub.1-10 fluoroalkyl, where the alpha-carbon substituent is selected from the group consisting of hydroxyl and silyl protected hydroxyl and where R.sup.2 is beta hydrogen and R.sup.1 is other than hydrogen, R.sup.3 is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and C.sub.1-10 alkyl;
- R.sup.4 is hydrogen;
- and X, Y and Z are independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, halogen, C.sub.1-10 alkyl, C.sub.6 or .sub.10 aryl, C.sub.1-10 alkoxy, and C.sub.6 or .sub.10 aryloxy.
