Abstract
A multi-stage adder has a plurality of parallel inputs some fed to one stage of the adder and other inputs fed to a next stage of the adder. To effect selective inversion of a pair of inputs one of the pair is connected to one stage and the other of the pair is connected to the next stage. A cross-over switch is provided on both inputs so that their connection to the two successive stages can be interchanged.
Claims12
A digital signal adder array in which digital data is supplied on parallel signal lines to an array of adders forming a succession of connected stages, each adder causing an inversion of the data between an input and an output of the adder, said array including one adder stage having an input, an adder, and an output, a next adder stage having an input, and adder, and an output, the input of said next adder stage being connected to the output of said adder stage, and selectively operable inversion circuitry connected to first and second signal lines, said first signal line being connected to an input of an adder in said one adder stage and said second signal line being connected to an input of a different adder in said next adder stage,
- said inversion circuitry comprising a crossover switch operable to connect said first signal line to said different adder and said second signal line to said one adder, whereby connection of said first and second signal lines is switched between said adder stage and said next adder stage.
A method of inverting digital data signals comprising the steps of:
- inputting digital signals on parallel signal lines to an array of adders forming a succession of adder stages, an at least one adder of said array of adders causing an inversion of data between an input and an output of said at least one adder, effecting an adding operation in an at least one adder stage and outputting a result of said adding operation to form an input to a next adder stage, inputting a first signal from a first signal line to an adder in a first adder stage of said succession of adder stages, inputting a second signal from a second signal line to a different adder in a next stage of said succession of adder stages and effecting an inversion of first and second signals on said first and second signal lines by interchanging a connection of the first and second signal lines so that the first signal line is connected to said different adder and said second signal line is connected to said adder, thereby switching connections of said first and second signal lines between said succession of adder stages.
A method of computing separable two-dimensional linear transforms which method comprises the steps of:
- forming a succession of adding operations including inverting digital data signals on parallel signal lines connected to an array of adders forming a succession of adder stages, an at least one adder causing an inversion of data between an input and an output of the at least one adder of said array of adders, said method including effecting an adding operation in a one adder stage and outputting a result of said adding operation to form an input to a next adder stage, inputting data from a first signal line to at least one adder in said first adder stage, inputting data from a second signal line to an at least another adder in said next stage and effecting an inversion of the signals on said first and second signal lines by interchanging a connection of the first and second signal lines so that the first signal line connected to said at least another adder and said second signal line is connected is to said at least one adder in said first adder stage, thereby switching connection of said first and second signal lines between said succession of adder stages.
