Abstract
A process for isomerizing a paraffin feed comprising contacting the feed with a strong, solid acid catalyst comprising a sulfated Group IVB metal oxide and at least one Group VIII metal in the presence of hydrogen and an adamantane compound.
Claims14
An isomerization process which comprises contacting a feed comprising normal C.sub.n or C.sub.n + paraffins, where n=5, with a solid catalyst comprising a Group VIII metal and a sulfated Group IVB oxide, in the presence of hydrogen and an adamantane compound, at temperatures below the sulfate decomposition temperature and recovering a product comprising iso C.sub.n or iso C.sub.n + isomerate and C(.sub.n-1)- crackate.
The process of claim wherein the adamantane compound is present in an amount of about 0.01 to 5.0 wt. % based o weight of feed.
An isomerization process which comprises contacting a C.sub.7 + paraffin feed with a catalyst comprising platinum and a sulfated zirconia in the presence of hydrogen and an adamantane compound at temperatures below about 400.degree. C., and recovering a product having less than about 20 wt. % crackate.
