Abstract
The present invention is directed to a process for treating an oily substrate, including a mixture comprising water and oily material or a mixture comprising water, solids and oily material as components, and wherein such treatment comprises contacting the oily substrate with a solvent for the oily material, and wherein the solvent for the oily material ranges in solubility in water from sparingly soluble to substantially water insoluble, in the presence of an added comminuting and dispersing surfactant, to produce by such contacting at least one phase differentiating interface, and to thereby render one or more of the components of the oily substrate separable.
Claims142
A process for treating an oily substrate selected from the group consisting of a mixture comprising water and oily material or a mixture comprising water, solids and oily material as components of said substrate, said process comprising:
- contacting said oily substrate with a solvent for said oily material, said solvent for said material ranging in solubility in water from sparingly soluble to substantially water insoluble and a comminuting and dispersing surfactant for said oily substrate, to product at least one phase differentiating interface and to thereby render one or more components of said oily substrate separable.
A process for treating an oily substrate selected from the group consisting of a mixture comprising water and oily material or a mixture comprising water, solids and oily material as components of said substrate, said process comprising step.
- (1) contacting said oily substrate with a solvent for said oily material, said solvent for said material ranging in water solubility from sparingly soluble to substantially water insoluble, and a comminuting and dispersing surfactant for said oily substrate to produce at least one phase differentiating interface, and to thereby render one or more components of said oily substrate separable;
- and step
- (2) separating at least one phase from other phases present.
A process for treating an oily substrate selected from the group consisting of a mixture comprising water and oily material or a mixture comprising water, solids and oily material as components of said substrate, said process comprising step:
- (1) contacting said oily substrate with a solvent for said oily material, said solvent for said material ranging in solubility in water from sparingly soluble to substantially water insoluble, and a comminuting and dispensing surfactant for said oily substrate, to produce at least one phase differentiating interface, and to thereby render one or more components of said oily substrate separable step;
- (2) separating at least one phase from other phases present to obtain a separated phase comprising said solvent and at least a portion of said oily material;
- and step;
- (3) removing said solvent from said separated phase.
A process for treating an oily substrate selected from the group consisting of a mixture comprising water and oily material or a mixture comprising water, solids and oily material as components of said substrate, said process comprising:
- step
- (1) contacting said oily substrate with a solvent for said oily material, said solvent for said material ranging in solubility in water from sparingly soluble to substantially water insoluble, and a comminuting and dispensing surfactant for said oily substrate, to produce at least one phase differentiating interface, and to thereby render one or more components of said oily substrate separable;
- (2) separating at least one phase from other phases present to obtain a separated phase comprising said solvent and at least a portion of said oily material;
- step
- (3) recovering said solvent from said separated phase;
- and step
- (4) recycling said recovered solvent to said contacting step (1) as at least part of said solvent used in said contacting step (1).
A process for treating an oily substrate selected from the group consisting of a mixture comprising water and oily material or a mixture comprising water, solids and oily material as components of said substrate, said process comprising:
- step
- (1) contacting said oily substrate with a solvent for said oily material, said solvent for said material ranging in solubility in water from sparingly soluble to substantially water insoluble, and a comminuting and dispensing surfactant for said oily substrate, to produce at least one phase differentiating interface, and to thereby render one or more components of said oil substrate separable;
- then step
- (2) separating one or more of the phases present said one or more phases predominantly comprising said constituents of said oil substrate;
- and step
- (3) recycling said one or more separated phases from step (2) to said contacting step (1) for further treatment.
