Abstract
An absorbent structure for absorbing body fluid is provided having means to direct body fluid along the longitudinal axis of the product and to substantially limit side failure. Two or more longitudinal chambers of absorbent material are provided which are separated by fluid repellent walls. These walls act to guide flow generally along the longitudinal axis of the product.
Claims1
An absorbent structure having a body-facing side, a garment-facing side, a longitudinal axis and a transverse axis, which comprises:
- (a) a fluid permeable cover on said body-facing side;
- (b) at least two abutted absorbent chambers formed by fluid repellent walls comprising moisture impermeable polymeric film selected from the group consisting of impermeable dense polymeric film, microporous film or apertured polymeric film, wherein said film comprises a layer of ethyl, vinyl acetate film and an adjacent layer of polyethylene film, wherein said ethyl, vinyl acetate film is located on the garment-facing side of the absorbent structure, said chambers extending generally along the longitudinal axis of the absorbent structure, said chambers containing absorbent material such that the absorbent material in each of said chambers is separated from absorbent material in adjacent absorbent chambers by said fluid repellent walls, which are adapted to direct the flow of fluid along the longitudinal axis of the absorbent structure.
