Abstract
A process for surface modifying a variety of polymeric support surfaces is disclosed in which a predetermined modifying polymer is irreversibly absorbed onto essentially all the surfaces of the support polymer accessible to the modifying polymer. The modifying polymer is selected to impart the desired surface characteristics to the modified polymeric surface.
Claims33
A surface modified membrane which comprises a substantially hydrophobic polymeric support membrane having a nonproteinaceous modifying polymer irreversibly adsorbed thereon, said modifying polymer having a molecular weight of at least 10,000 and being disposed in a substantially monomolecular layer on essentially the entire surface area of said substantially hydrophobic support membrane.
A surface modified membrane which comprises a substantially hydrophobic polymeric porous support membrane having a nonproteinaceous modifying polymer irreversibly adsorbed thereon, said modifying polymer having a molecular weight of at least 10,000 and being disposed in a substantially monomolecular layer on essentially the entire surface area of said substantially hydrophobic support membrane.
