Abstract
A container (10) includes a base portion (12), a cover (11) and a latch assembly (13) for releasably attaching the cover (11) to the base portion (12). The latch assembly (13) includes a latch body portion (24) having lower upper end (27) pivotally connected to the base portion (12) and an upper end (26) carrying lug members (36) which can engage a rib (37) on the cover (11). A lock receiving tab (40) extends outwardly from the cover (11) and is positioned adjacent to a slot opening (42) in the latch body portion (24) when the latch assembly (13) is engaging the cover (11). In this position, a lock can be positioned through the slot opening (42) and through an opening (41) in the tab (40) to lock the latch assembly (13) and thus the cover (11) on the base portion (12).
Claims36
A latch assembly for attaching a container cover to a container base portion comprising a body member having a central portion, an upper end and a lower end, means adjacent to said lower end of said body member for pivoting said body member with respect to the container base portion, lug means carried by said upper end of said body member to engage the container cover, lock receiving tab means extending generally laterally outwardly from the container cover, and an aperture in said central portion and in said upper end of said body member, the portion of said aperture in said upper end being generally vertically aligned with said lock receiving tab means when said body member is pivoted to a closed position with said lug means engaging said container cover so that a lock may be inserted through said aperture and engage said lock receiving tab means.
A container comprising a base portion having side walls and end walls, an exterior recess in at least one of said walls, a cover for closing the top of said base portion, a latch member positioned in said recess and having an upper end and a lower end, means connected to said lower end of said latch member to pivot said latch member with respect to one of said walls, lug means proximate said upper end of said latch member to engage said cover, lock receiving tab means extending generally laterally outwardly from said cover, and an aperture in said latch member positioned generally vertically alignable with said lock receiving tab means so that a lock may be inserted through said aperture and engage said tab means.
A container comprising a base portion having side walls and end walls, a cover for closing the top of said base portion, a recess in at least one of said walls, and latch and lock receiving means positioned in said recess, said latch and lock receiving means enabling said cover to be latched and locked to said base portion, said latch and lock receiving means including a latch body member having an aperture therein and lock receiving tab means extending generally laterally from said cover so that said tab means can receive a lock when said cover is in a latch position, said latch body member having an upper end and a lower end, and means on said lower end to pivot said latch body member with respect to said one of said walls.
A container comprising a base portion having side walls and end walls, an exterior recess in at least one of said walls, a cover receivable on the container for closing the top thereof, a latch member positioned in said recess and having an upper end and a lower end, said lower end of said latch member being pivotally attached to said at least one of said walls, lug means proximate said upper end of said latch member to engage said cover, lock receiving tab means extending generally laterally outwardly from said cover, said latch member having an aperture therein, said aperture being positioned so as to be in registry with said lock receiving tab means when said latch member is pivoted toward said at least one of said walls, whereby said lock receiving tab means may receive a lock after said latch member has been pivoted toward said at least one of said walls.
A latch member for a container having side and end walls and a cover releasably receivable thereon, said latch member having an upper end and a lower end, a body portion between said upper and lower end, and a through aperture in said body portion;
- said body portion being substantially C-shaped in side profile and defining a recess positioned toward one wall of the container;
- means for pivotally interconnecting said lower end to one of the walls of the container;
- lug means proximate said upper end of said latch member to engage the cover upon pivoting of said latch member toward the one wall of the container;
- and lock receiving tab means extending generally laterally outwardly from said cover, said recess receiving said lock receiving tab means when said latch member is pivoted toward said one wall of the container;
- said aperture having a configuration adapted to receive said lock receiving tab means and being positioned so as to be registrable with said lock receiving tab means when said latch member is pivoted toward the one wall of the container.
A latch member for attachment of a cover to a container sidewall, comprising a C-shaped body portion with a generally planar central portion extending between an upper portion and a lower portion and having outward and inward faces;
- means for pivotally connecting the lower portion to the container sidewall;
- elongate intersecting through-slot means extending through said central portion;
- and lock receiving tab means disposed on the cover;
- said body portion defining a cavity between said upper and lower portions and communicating with said intersecting through-slot means, whereby upon pivoting said latch member toward the container sidewall, said lock receiving tab means is receivable into said cavity and is accessible through said intersecting through-slot means from said outward face.
