Abstract
Diphenylheteroalkyl derivatives of the formula I ##STR1## where A and R.sup.1 -R.sup.6 have the meanings specified in the description, and the preparation thereof are described. The substances are suitable for controlling diseases and as cosmetic agents.

A diphenylheteroalkyl derivative of the formula I or Ia ##STR17## where A is --X--CH.sub.2 -- or --X--CH(CH.sub.3)--,
- X, which can be linked to the left or right phenyl nucleus, is oxygen, --S(O).sub.n -- or --NR'--, with n being 0, 1 or 2 and R' being hydrogen, C.sub.1-6 -alkyl or C.sub.1-6 -alkanoyl, and
- R is --COOH, --COO--C.sub.1-6 -alkyl, --CHO, --CH.sub.2 OH, --CN or --COHN.sub.2 ;
- or
- the physiologically tolerated salt thereof.
