Novel carboxamide pyridine compounds which have useful pharmaceutical utility

A compound of formula

• R.sup.1 --A--(W).sub.a --X--(CH.sub.2).sub.b --(Y).sub.c --B--Z--COOR(I)
• wherein
• A is selected from ##STR3## B is the radical ##STR4## W is selected from the group consisting of --CH.sub.2 --, --CH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 --, --CH.dbd.CH--, --CH.dbd.CH--CH.sub.2 --, --(CH.sub.2).sub.3 --, --CH.sub.2 CH(CH.sub.3) and --CH(OH)CH.sub.2 --;
• X is selected from the group consisting of --CONR.sup.2 -- and --NR.sup.2 CO--;
• Y is selected from the group consisting of --CH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 --, --CH(CH.sub.3)CH.sub.2 --, --CH.dbd.CH--, --CH.sub.2 --CH.dbd.CH--, --CH.sub.2 --, --CH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 --, CH(CH.sub.3)CH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 --, --CH(CH.sub.2 OH)CH.sub.2 -- and --CH(COOR)CH.sub.2 --;
• Z is --OCH.sub.2 --;
• R is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, lower alkyl, phenyl and phenyl-lower alkyl;
• R.sup.1 is amidino;
• R.sup.2 is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, lower alkyl, phenyl-lower-alkyl and phenyl-lower-alkyl which is substituted in the phenyl moiety by amino, amidino, --COOR, or a radical --CH.sub.2 COOR or --Y--B--Z--COOR;
• R.sup.3 is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, halogen, lower carbalkoxy, amino, lower alkylamino, di-lower-alkylamino and amidino;
• R.sup.4 is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, halogen, lower carbalkoxy, amino, lower alkylamino, di-lower-alkyl-amino and a radical --Z--COOR or --CH.dbd.CH(CH.sub.2)nCOOR;
• n is an integer from 0-4;
• a, c and d are the integers 0 or 1;
• b is an integer from 0-2, provided that when a and b are 0, then c is 1, and when c is 0, then a or b is different from 0;
• or physiologically acceptable salt thereof.
