6-Ethynyl-chroman derivatives wherein R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.3, R.sub.4, and R.sub.5, hydrogen or lower alkyl groups of one to six carbons wherein R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.3, R.sub.4, and R.sub.5 may be identical or different from one another, X is oxygen, and Z is hydrogen of the following formula: ##STR1##

Compounds of the formula, ##STR11## wherein X is O and
- R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.3, R.sub.4 and R.sub.5 are hydrogen or lower alkyl having to 6 carbons, or salts of the compounds of the formula defined herein.
