Abstract
Stabilizer compositions including blends of sodium perchlorate hydrate and calcium silicate are disclosed. Free flowing powder compositions of reduced hazard level including calcium silicate, non-absorbing diluent powder such as calcium carbonate, and a solution of sodium perchlorate in water are also disclosed. Vinyl halide compositions especially those used for motor vehicle components having improved long term stability at moderate aging temperatures of about 180.degree. F. to about 275.degree. F., and processes for preparing such compositions, are also disclosed.
Claims25
A vinyl halide composition which comprises a polyvinyl chloride resin and a stabilizer including sodium perchlorate and calcium silicate said stabilizer being present in an amount of from about 0.1 to about 10 weight percent to the weight of said polyvinyl chloride resin.
A vinyl halide composition which comprises a polyvinyl chloride resin, and an effective amount of a primary heat stabilizer composition to provide processing stability at processing temperatures of about 300.degree. F. to about 400.degree. F., and an amount of from about 0.1 to about 10 weight percent to the weight of said polyvinyl chloride resin of a secondary heat stabilizer composition to provide long term stability at moderate aging temperatures of about 180.degree. F. to about 275.degree. F., said secondary stabilizer composition comprising sodium perchlorate hydrate and calcium silicate.
A shaped motor vehicle component having an improved stability at moderate temperatures comprised of a polyvinyl chloride resin composition, at least one heat stabilizer in a sufficient amount to impart heat processing stability during shaping, and a secondary stabilizer composition comprises sodium perchlorate hydrate and calcium silicate in an amount of from about 0.1 to about 10 weight percent to the weight of said polyvinyl chloride sufficient amount to provide, after shaping, stability at moderate temperatures not provided by any residual heat stabilizer.
The shaped motor vehicle component of claim 16 wherein said secondary stabilizer composition comprises 30 to 50 weight percent of calcium silicate, 30 to 50 weight percent of calcium carbonate, and 10 to 30 weight percent of a water solution containing approximately 60 to 75 weight percent of sodium perchlorate.
A process for preparing a motor vehicle component having an improved stability at moderate temperatures which comprises forming a vinyl chloride resin composition at a heat processing temperature within the range from about 300.degree. to 400.degree. F. in the selected shape, incorporating within the composition at least one heat stabilizer in sufficient amount to impart processing stability during shaping and incorporating within such composition a sufficient amount of a secondary stabilizer composition comprising sodium perchlorate hydrate and calcium silicate to provide, after shaping, stability at moderate temperatures not provided by any residual heat stabilizer.
A free flowing powder perchlorate stabilizer composition of reduced hazard level comprising 10 to 30 weight percent of a water solution containing approximately 60 to 75 weight percent of sodium perchlorate sodium perchlorate, 30 to 50 weight percent of calcium silicate, and 30 to 50 weight percent of a non-absorbing inert diluent powder.
