Compositions and photographic materials containing 2-(2-hydroxyphenyl)-benztriazoles, as UV-absorbers

A stabilized organic material containing an effective stabilizing amount of at least one compound of the formula I ##STR41## in which R.sup.1 is H, Cl, straight-chain or branched C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl or straight-chain or branched C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkoxy and n is one of the numbers 1 or 2, and in which,

• a) when n=1, R.sup.2 is Cl, --OR.sup.3 or ##STR42## and b) when n=2, R.sup.2 is one of the divalent radicals --O--R.sup.9 --O-- or ##STR43## R.sup.3 being H, straight-chain or branched C.sub.1 -C.sub.18 alkyl which is unsubstituted or substituted by 1 to 3 OH groups or ##STR44## or --O--Si(R.sup.6).sub.3 or --O--CO(R.sup.6), straight-chain or branched C.sub.3 -C.sub.18 alkyl which is interrupted by --O--, --S-- or --NR.sup.6 -- and which can be unsubstituted or substituted by OH or --O--CO(R.sup.6), C.sub.5 -C.sub.12 cycloalkyl which is unsubstituted or substituted by OH, straight-chain or branched C.sub.2 -C.sub.18 alkenyl which is unsubstituted or substituted by OH, C.sub.7 -C.sub.15 aralkyl, ##STR45## and R.sup.4 and R.sup.5 independently of one another being H, straight-chain or branched C.sub.1 -C.sub.18 alkyl, straight-chain or branched C.sub.3 -C.sub.18 alkyl which is interrupted by O, S or --NR.sup.6 --, C.sub.5 -C.sub.12 cycloalkyl, C.sub.6 -C.sub.14 aryl which is substituted or unsubstituted, straight-chain or branched C.sub.3 -C.sub.8 alkenyl, C.sub.7 -C.sub.15 aralkyl, C.sub.6 -C.sub.14 aryl or C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 hydroxyalkyl, or R.sub.4 and R.sub.5, together with the nitrogen atom, are a pyrrolidine, piperidine, piperazine or morpholine ring, and R.sub.6 being H, straight-chain or branched C.sub.1 -C.sub.18 alkyl, C.sub.5 -C.sub.12 cycloalkyl, straight-chain or branched C.sub.3 -C.sub.8 alkenyl, C.sub.6 -C.sub.14 aryl or C.sub.7 -C.sub.18 aralkyl, R.sub.7 being H, straight-chain or branched C.sub.1 -C.sub.18 alkyl which is unsubstituted or substituted by --PO(OR.sup.8).sub.2, phenyl which is unsubstituted or substituted by OH, C.sub.7 -C.sub.18 aralkyl or --CH.sub.2 OR.sup.8, R.sup.8 being straight-chain or branched C.sub.1 -C.sub.18 alkyl, straight-chain or branched C.sub.3 -C.sub.18 alkenyl, C.sub.5 -C.sub.10 cycloalkyl, C.sub.6 -C.sub.16 aryl or C.sub.7 -C.sub.15 aralkyl, R.sub.9 being C.sub.2 -C.sub.8 alkylene, C.sub.4 -C.sub.8 alkenylene, C.sub.4 alkinylene, cyclohexylene, straight-chain or branched C.sub.4 -C.sub.10 alkylene which is interrupted by --O--, or ##STR46## and R.sub.10 being straight-chain or branched C.sub.2 -C.sub.12 alkylene which may be interrupted by --O--, cyclohexylene, ##STR47## or R.sup.10 and R.sup.6, together with the two nitrogen atoms, being a piperazine ring, and R.sup.11 being straight-chain or branched C.sub.2 -C.sub.8 alkylene, straight-chain or branched C.sub.4 -C.sub.10 alkylene which is interrupted by --O--, cycloalkylene, arylene, ##STR48##
