Abstract
Method and apparatus for fire control comprising the use of a gas-liquid twin fluid spray nozzle. In one embodiment the spray nozzle comprises a mixing chamber having a gas inlet and one or more outlets at opposite ends, two or more liquid inlets between the gas inlet and the outlets and a mixing zone between the liquid inlets and the outlets. In another embodiment the spray nozzle comprises a mixing chamber having a plurality of gas inlets, liquid inlets and outlets, the inner surface of the mixing chamber being capable of aiding mixing of gas and liquid introduced through the inlets. The nozzles may be used in fixed, portable or semi-portable fire control systems.
Claims17
A method of fire control by use of a spray nozzle, the method comprising the steps of(a) supplying to the spray nozzle separately and under pressure non-flammable gas, and non-flammable liquid, said spray nozzle having a mixing chamber with at least one gas inlet, at least one liquid inlet and at least one outlet, and said gas and liquid mixing in said mixing chamber with at least a part of the liquid being sheared and recirculated therein to produce a spray from said outlet and (b) directing said spray to control the fire.
A spray nozzle for use in fire control comprising a mixing chamber having at least one inlet for pressurized, non-flammable gas and at least one inlet for pressurized, non-flammable liquid said inlets being directed to supply, in use, pressurized, non-flammable gas and liquid to mix in said mixing chamber with at least a part of the liquid being sheared and recirculated therein and to produce a spray and said chamber having at least one outlet for the resultant spray.
Apparatus for use in fire control, comprising one or more spray nozzles, each having a mixing chamber with at least one gas inlet, at least one liquid inlet and at least one outlet, and means for supplying pressurized, non-flammable gas to said gas inlets and means for supplying pressurized, non-flammable liquid to said liquid inlets so that in use said gas and liquid mix in said mixing chamber with at least a part of the liquid being sheared and recirculated therein to produce a spray from said outlet.
