A thread-tying apparatus for use in a shuttle loom. The thread tying apparatus includes a grasping claw (122), pressing lever (124), small claw (126), large claw (127), gripping claw (129) and thread tightener (125a). The grasping claws (122) grasp the threads at two locations and rotate the threads so as to form a loop therein which cross at a point. The pressing lever (124) then hooks the crossing point of the threads such that the small claw (126) can grasp the threads at a position offset from the grasping claw (122). Thereafter, the large claw (126) pushes down a portion of the thread such that gripping claw (129) can grab the portion of the thread and pull the thread through the loop which is thereafter tightened by the thread tightener (125a).
