Abstract
New Medicament comprising as active ingredient a N.sup.6 -substituted adenosine of formula I ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1, R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 are each independently hydrogen or acyl R.sub.4 -CO- in which R.sub.4 is alkyl, aryl, heteroaryl or aralkyl.

A compound of the formula ##STR6## wherein R.sub.1, R.sub.2, and R.sub.3 are the same or different and each is hydrogen or R.sub.4 --CO-- wherein R.sub.4 is alkyl, aryl, heteroaryl, or aralkyl.
A lipophilic carboxylic acid ester prodrug of one or more of the hydroxyl groups of the compound of the formula ##STR7##
A pharmaceutical composition useful for effecting anti-inflammatory, analgesic, tranquilizing, and anti-hypertensive effects in humans and animals which comprises a therapeutically effective amount of a compound of the formula ##STR8## wherein R.sub.1, R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 are the same or different and each is hydrogen or R.sub.4 --CO-- wherein R.sub.4 is alkyl, aryl, heteroaryl or aralkyl, in combination with a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier.
A method for treating inflammation, pain, and hypertension, and providing a tranquilizing effect, in humans and animals which comprises administering to a human or animal in need thereof a therapeutically effective amount of a compound of the formula ##STR9## wherein R.sub.1, R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 are the same or different and each is hydrogen or R.sub.4 --CO-- wherein R.sub.4 is alkyl, aryl, heteroaryl or aralkyl, in combination with a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier.
