Abstract
Carbon monoxide is reacted with water vapor and converted into hydrogen and carbon dioxide, in the presence of a thio-resistant catalyst which comprises an active phase deposited onto a support, said active phase comprising molybdenum, vanadium or tungsten, and a cobalt and/or nickel promoter therefor, and said support comprising cerium oxide or zirconium oxide. The reaction mixture advantageously includes carbon monoxide, hydrogen, water and compounds of sulfur, wherefrom hydrogen is selectively produced in increased amounts.
Claims11
A process for the conversion of carbon monoxide and water into hydrogen and carbon dioxide in the presence of sulfur compounds, comprising reacting carbon monoxide with water vapor in the presence of a catalytically effective amount of a thioresistant catalyst which comprises an active phase deposited onto a support, said active phase consisting essentially of molybdenum, vanadium or tungsten, and a cobalt and/or nickel promoter therefor, and said support comprising zirconium oxide;
- and wherein the reaction is carried out at a temperature of from about 275.degree. to about 350.degree. C.
A process for the conversion of carbon monoxide and water into hydrogen and carbon dioxide in the presence of sulfur compounds comprising reacting carbon monoxide with water vapor in the presence of a catalytically effective amount of a thio-resistant catalyst essentially free of alkali metal which comprises an active phase deposited onto a support, said active phase comprising molybdenum, vanadium or tungsten, and a cobalt and/or nickel promoter therefor, and said support comprising zirconium oxide.
