Abstract
In a zoom lens system of the type which includes a first lens group having a positive focal length and a second lens group having a negative focal length and which performs zooming by adjusting the distance between the two lens groups, the first lens group is composed of a first lens unit having a small power and having a positive or negative focal length and a second lens unit having a positive focal length, the first lens unit being of a two-group-two-element composition which comprises, in order from the object side, a first positive meniscus lens element having a convex surface of large curvature directed toward the object and a second meniscus lens element of large thickness that has a concave surface of large curvature on the object side and a convex surface of large curvature on the image plane side.
Claims6
In a zoom lens system for use in a compact camera which comprises, in order from the object side, a first lens group having a positive focal length and a second lens group having a negative focal length and which performs zooming by adjusting the distance between the two lens groups, the improvement wherein said first lens group having a positive focal length comprises, in order from the object side, a first lens unit having a small power and a second lens unit having a positive focal length, said first lens unit being of a two-group-two-element composition which comprises, in order from the object side, a first positive meniscus lens element having a convex surface directed toward the object and a second meniscus lens element of large thickness that has a concave surface on the object side and a convex surface on the image plane side, said first lens group satisfying the following conditions:
- (1) .vertline.f.sub.1G /f.sub.1a .vertline.<0.35
- (2) 0.1<d=hd 3/f.sub.S <0.35
- (3) 0.8<h.sub.x1 /h.sub.x4 <1.0
- wherein f.sub.1G represents the focal length of the first lens group. f.sub.1a represents the focal length of the first lens unit, d.sub.3 represents the thickness of the second meniscus lens element, f.sub.S represents the focal length of the overall system at the wide-angle end, h.sub.x1 represents the height at which paraaxial rays of light intersect the lens surface of the first lens unit which is the closest to the object of the lens surfaces of lens unit, and h.sub.x4 represents the height at which paraaxial rays of light intersect the lens surface of the first lens unit which is closest to the image.
