Abstract
An expanded perlite insulation board having an integrally attached scorch-resistant layer is provided. During formation of the perlite insulating board using a traditional Fourdrinier manufacturing process, a liquid slurry of mineral wool and clay is applied to the still-wet perlite board, forming a coating thereon. Upon completion of the manufacturing process, the coated layer protects the underlying perlite board from scorching during installation of the outer modified bitumen layer when using the open flame, propane torch method of installation.
Claims14
An improved perlite insulating board of the type made from an aqueous slurry of fibers, sizing and expanded perlite, wherein the improvement comprises:
- a scorch-resistant outer surface integrally formed in a surface of said perlite insulating board by dispersement of said scorch-resistant outer surface as a slurry onto the said aqueous slurry of said fibers, sizing and expanded perlite during the formation of the said perlite insulating board.
A scorch-resistant fiberboard product comprising:
- a fiberboard product having a surface formed thereon;
- and an outer scorch-resistant surface integrally formed upon said surface of said fiberboard product by dispersement as a slurry onto an aqueous slurry precursor of said fiberboard product during formation of said fiberboard product.
