Abstract
Branched cyclodextrins are produced by the pyrolysis of crystalline cyclodextrins. The temperature range is 135.degree. C. to 220.degree. C. using equipment suitable for making British gum and other starch dextrins.
Claims8
A method for making branched cyclodextrin comprising:
- (a) heating dried, crystalline cyclodextrin free of non-carbohydrate materials to a temperature between about 135.degree. C. to about 220.degree. C. to form a product containing branched cyclodextrin;
- (b) cooling the product containing branched cyclodextrin;
- and
- (c) separating the branched cyclodextrin from the product.
