Abstract
Poly-p-phenylene is produced by reaction of benzene with oxygen gas in the presence of a chloride of a metal having a lower valence and aluminum chloride.
Claims6
A process for the preparation of poly-p-phenylene which comprises
- polymerizing benzene in an oxygen-containing atmosphere in the presence of aluminum chloride and a lower-valence metal chloride selected from the group consising of copper (I) chloride and vanadium (III) chloride, at a temperature of room temperature to 80.degree. C.
