Abstract
Electrically conductive tetrafluoroethylene copolymer compositions containing conductive carbon black have significant increased conductivity and lower effective melt viscosity when the tetrafluoroethylene copolymer has been treated with a fluorinating agent.
Claims10
A composition consisting essentially of
- (a) a melt-processible tetrafluoroethylene copolymer comprising recurring units of tetrafluoroethylene comonomer and recurring units of a comonomer represented by the formula ##STR2## wherein R is R.sub.f, --R'.sub.f --X, or O--R.sub.f or --O--R'.sub.f --X in which R.sub.f is a perfluoroalkyl radical of 1-12 carbon atoms, R'.sub.f is --(CF.sub.2).sub.n --, were n=1-12, or the same diradical containing ether oxygen;
- and X is H or Cl;
- and wherein said copolymer has been fluorinated by subjecting it to a fluorinating agent until the number of unstable end groups is less than 70 per 10.sup.6 carbon atoms;
- and
- (b) a conductive carbon black present in an amount of between 1 and 20 weight percent of the composition.

- (a) a melt-processible tetrafluoroethylene copolymer comprising recurring units of tetrafluoroethylene comonomer and recurring units of a comonomer represented by the formula ##STR3## wherein R is R.sub.f, --R'.sub.f --X, or --O--R.sub.f or O--R'.sub.f --X in which R.sub.f is a perfluoroalkyl radical of 1-12 carbon atoms, R'.sub.f is --(CF.sub.2).sub.n --, where n=1-12, or the same diradical containing ether oxygen;
- and X is H or Cl;
- and wherein said copolymer has been fluorinated by subjecting it to a fluorinating agent until the number of unstable end groups is less than 6 per 10.sup.6 carbon atoms;
- and
- (b) a conductive carbon black present in an amount of between 1 and 20 weight percent of the composition.
