Hydrogen sulphide is removed using transition metal carboxylates.

A process for removing hydrogen sulphide from mineral oil-containing liquids comprising contacting said liquid with a solution or dispersion in a hydrocarbon or in a mixture of hydrocarbons of iron 2-ethylhexanoate.
