Acylation products of bis(2-imidazolin-2-ylhydrazones) of 9,10-anthracenedicarboxaldehyde

A compound selected from those of the formula:

• ##STR8## wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.3 are the same or different and are:
• hydrogen, alkyl(C.sub.1 -C.sub.6), ##STR9## ((where R.sub.5 is hydrogen, alkyl(C.sub.1 -C.sub.6), cyclohexyl which is further substituted by carboxyl, phenyl, monosubstituted phenyl (wherein the substituent may be ortho, meta or para and is fluoro, nitro, alkyl(C.sub.1 -C.sub.6), alkoxy (C.sub.1 -C.sub.3) or cyano), pentafluorophenyl, naphthyl, furanyl, ##STR10## --CH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 COOH, --OC(CH.sub.3).sub.3, --CH.sub.2 OCH.sub.3, --(CH.sub.2).sub.3 COOH, ##STR11## --(CH.sub.2).sub.2 SO.sub.3 H or --CH.sub.2 N.sup..sym. --(CH.sub.3).sub.3 Cl.sup..crclbar.)), ##STR12## or --SO.sub.3 H;
• with the proviso that only one of R.sub.1 and R.sub.3 may be hydrogen or alkyl(C.sub.1 -C.sub.6);
• R.sub.2 and R.sub.4 are the same or different and are:
• hydrogen, alkyl(C.sub.1 -C.sub.4) or ##STR13## ((where R.sub.6 is hydrogen, alkyl(C.sub.1 -C.sub.6), phenyl, monosubstituted phenyl (wherein the substituent may be in the ortho, meta or para position and is fluoro, nitro, alkyl(C.sub.1 -C.sub.6), alkoxy (C.sub.1 -C.sub.3)) or cyano), pentafluorophenyl, naphthyl, furanyl or --CH.sub.2 OCH.sub.3));
• or a pharmacologically acceptable salt thereof.
