There are provided heterocyclic polymers having repeating units of the formula ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 is --H or ##STR2## R.sub.2 is ##STR3## R.sub.3 is ##STR4## and R.sub.4 is R.sub.2 or ##STR5## and B is ##STR6## wherein X is --S--, --O-- or --NH--.

An aromatic heterocyclic polymer having repeating units of the formula ##STR18## wherein R.sub.1 is --H or ##STR19## R.sub.2 is ##STR20## R.sub.3 is ##STR21## and R.sub.4 is R.sub.2 or ##STR22## and B is ##STR23## wherein X is --S--.
