Abstract
This invention relates to novel spirosuccinimide derivatives, to the processes for their preparation, to methods for using the compounds, and to pharmaceutical preparations thereof. The compounds have pharmaceutical properties which render them beneficial for the treatment of diabetes mellitus and associated conditions.

A compound of formula (I) ##STR50## wherein A is SO.sub.2 ;
- R is lower alkyl containing 1 to 6 carbon atoms, benzyl, halogen substituted benzyl, (2-naphthalenyl)methyl, (1-bromo-2-naphthalenyl)methyl;
- X is hydrogen, halogen, lower alkyl containing 1 to 4 carbon atoms, lower alkoxy containing 1 to 4 carbon atoms, lower alkylthio containing 1 to 4 carbon atoms, carboalkoxy containing 1 to 4 carbon atoms, phenyl, nitro;
- Y is hydrogen or chlorine;
- or X and Y are joined to form CH.dbd.CH--CH.dbd.CH, and the pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof.
