Abstract
This invention encompasses preparations containing hair dyes of the formula ##STR1## wherein: one of R.sup.1 or R.sup.2 is a nitro and the other is --SO.sub.3 H; one of R.sup.3 or R.sup.4 is --NR.sup.6 R.sup.7 and the other is hydrogen, chlorine, or a C.sub.1-4 alkyl, and R.sup.6 and R.sup.7 are independently hydrogen, C.sub.1-4 alkyl, or C.sub.2-4 hydroxyalkyl; and R.sup.5 is hydrogen, chlorine, or a C.sub.1-4 alkyl; or a water soluble salt thereof; certain novel compounds within the above formula; and a method for dyeing hair.
Claims22
In a hair dye aqueous preparation comprising a hair dye effective amount of a first substantive hair dye in a suitable cosmetic carrier, the improvement wherein said first substantive hair dye comprises at least one of the formula:
- ##STR4## wherein:
- one of R.sup.1 or R.sup.2 is nitro and the other is --SO.sub.3 H;
- one of R.sup.4 or R.sup.4 is --NR.sup.6 R.sup.7 and the other is hydrogen, chlorine, or a C.sub.1-4 alkyl, and R.sup.6 and R.sup.7 are independently hydrogen, C.sub.1-4 alkyl, or C.sub.2-4 hydroxyalkyl;
- and
- R.sup.5 is hydrogen, chlorine, or a C.sub.1-4 alkyl;
- or a water soluble salt thereof.
A compound selected from the group consisting of 2-nitro-4'-N,N-bis-(2-hydroxyethyl)-aminodiphenylamine-4-sulfonic acid, the water soluble salts thereof, 2-nitro-2'-methyl-4'-aminodiphenylamine-4-sulfonic acid, the water soluble salts thereof, 2-nitro-2'-chloro-4'-aminodiphenylamine-4-sulfonic acid, the water soluble salts thereof, 2-nitro-2'-chloro-4'-dimethylaminodiphenylamine-4-sulfonic acid, the water soluble salts thereof, 4-nitro-4'-N,N-bis-(2-hydroxyethyl)-aminodiphenylamine-4-sulfonic acid, and the water soluble salts thereof.
